"No Parking - missed appointment"

About: Broome Health Campus Broome Health Campus / Medical Imaging

(as the patient),

Had a fasting ultrasound in the morning and arrived there 15 minutes prior. Spent 20 minutes driving around Broome Hospital and could not get a car park. I could have parked on someones lawn three blocks away but I could not walk that far with abdominal pain. There were cars parked on any Free patch of lawn and on every verge.

In my opinion, there's no point providing services if there is no parking available. Noticed even the staff don't seem to have adequate parking and have resorted to parking on private properties lawns. I called the Hospital explaining the situation they offered to reschedule for the afternoon. As I live out of town and this was a fasting ultrasound it was not an option.

I believe this has been an ongoing issue with Broome hospital for over 10 years.

Dear Starlight1234,

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent experience at Broome Health Campus. I’m very sorry to hear that you were unable to attend your appointment due to the lack of available parking, particularly while in discomfort and having prepared for a fasting ultrasound. I completely understand how frustrating and distressing that would have been.

You are absolutely right—parking has been a longstanding challenge at our campus, particularly during peak times. It’s an issue we take seriously, and we acknowledge the impact it has on our patients, families, and staff alike.

While we have allocated marked patient bays near the main entry to assist, we recognise this is not always sufficient. We’ve been working closely with the Shire of Broome and other stakeholders to explore viable transport and parking solutions. One of the key barriers is that the Broome Bus service does not currently have a stop close to the hospital, and although discussions have been ongoing for some time, we have not yet reached a solution. We are continuing to advocate for better public transport access, which we believe would ease some of the pressure on parking.

In the meantime, I understand this doesn’t help in the moment when you’re in pain and unable to find a park. I appreciate you calling to explain the situation at the time, and I’m sorry we weren’t able to offer an alternative that met your needs on the day.

Please be assured your feedback has been heard, and I will continue to push for longer-term improvements. In the meantime, we are reviewing short-term strategies to better support patients needing priority access.

Thank you again for raising this important issue, and I hope we’ll have the opportunity to welcome you back under better circumstances.

Warm regards,
James Sherriff
Executive, Broome Hospital
