"Long wait times"

About: Peel Health Campus / Emergency Department

Went to ER with some very scary symptoms that I felt could not wait to see GP the next day. I sat in the ER for over 5 hours after that time I gave up and left  I saw countless people go in before me with what appeared to not be serious. I should have just waited to see my gp and not wasted my time. I hope I don't have anything serious wrong with me, because I never saw a doctor. I am happy to pay more tax if it means you actually get to see a doctor if you are sick .

Thank you for providing your feedback. It is important we receive feedback to improve the experience of our consumers.

I agree that 5 hours is too long to wait for treatment in an Emergency Department and I apologise that you weren’t seen earlier and prior to leaving the department.

The people you saw entering the department before you were likely being seen by our Treatment Unit. This unit is a “fast track” area for staff to treat minor injuries like wound treatment. Unfortunately, it was likely that your presentation was not appropriate to be seen in the Treatment Unit and required a review from the medical team in the main department. We are currently working on updating our communication materials in the waiting room to explain the different ED pathways.
