I was told I was not eligible for PATS after being referred to a specialist from my GP. The PATS worker made it quite clear that the GP cannot refer me to a specialist as it must be triaged through the visiting orthopaedic surgeons. The GP made it clear that none of the visiting orthopaedic surgeons specialise in foot/ankle which is what I required. I have been suffering for 12 months with this condition and now have no other option but to cover the cost myself. I will be requesting a review once I've seen the specialist and obtained supporting documentation. I feel it is no difference to requiring other specialised treatment. The GP is not going to triage it to another GP in the hospital? I also require an MRI which is not available in my area.
