I arrived at Prince of Wales Hospital via patient transport earlier this month and was placed in the Acute Spinal ward. I was not welcomed, addressed by any member of staff including nurses till 6pm when obs and medication was provided and then left to my own device till 2.30pm the next day.
I have no use of my hands and wasn't even offered to be assisted with food etc. I also wasn't told that I hadn't been cleared to get out of bed, I needed to go to the bathroom and was told that I had to use a bed pan. I am a human being who uses toilet not a bed to toilet in.
Based on my experience, I think that Prince of Wales Hospital should be condemned. I believe the parts of the hospital I saw are dirty, cockroach infested, and from the staff I saw, appears to lacks nurses that care, staffed by casuals who seemingly have no idea on how to support spinal injury patients. I feel I've been treated like an object. This was evident when a shower/bed bath was suggested and a dish cloth was going to used to wash my body.
I think the food is not fit for human nor animal consumption. First thing that goes on a spinal injury patient is muscle, in my opinion, the food is not fit for pigs let alone humans. Frozen food heated in a microwave is not conducive to muscle building nor the required nutrition requirements.
I requested a shower and was horrified that dish cloths were being used to wash bodies, I then was told that transporting from the shower to the ward naked was acceptable. I'm a human not a dog!
I can also confirm the bathrooms in the Acute Spinal Ward have not been cleaned appropriately for the past several days of my stay. I can see it's filthy!
I can not wait to get out of here, I believe there is nothing positive about this place.
I believe lack of care, compassion, cleanliness, empathy is evident to me every single day.
"Poor care"
