"Planned C Section and Nursery stay"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Maternity and Newborn Services

(as a parent/guardian),

I recently had a planned c section at Geraldton Regional Hospital. The theatre staff I saw were amazing - the anaesthetist understanding that I was anxious, the nurses providing information and guidance, constantly checking in with me, staff introducing themselves, showing their faces behind their masks to ensure familiarity.

Our baby boy arrived safely but following his birth he had some breathing troubles which ended in a stay in the nursery for 5 days. During this time we met incredible midwives, neonatal nurses, baby Drs, and beyond that PSAs.

Everyone met us with empathy, care and support, provided us with warmth when faced with terrifying moments, tests, confronting machines for our little baby. We also found communication to be thorough and considered. We felt that very possibility was explored to ensure the health of our baby.

Beyond this, I received great care in my recovery with only encouragement and understanding when feeling vulnerable, uncomfortable and of course worry for our baby.

We cannot thank Maternity/nursery staff enough for ensuring the health of our baby boy. We will remember your care and kindness during a traumatic time always! Thank you

Dear GeraldtonS,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience on Care Opinion.

On behalf on everyone at Geraldton Health Campus may I congratulate yourself and your family on the birth of your child. As a father of young children, I can clearly recall it is a magical time.

I was delighted to read that throughout your admission at the Campus that you received high quality, compassionate care with everyone you encountered. I was pleased that during these challenging times our communication was clear, respectful and gave you the reassurance that everyone was putting you and your baby at the centre of their efforts. It takes a large team to provide this care and I want to congratulate each and every one of them for their dedication to ensuring you and your family were well cared for and ably supported.

I hope you are all well and I wish you all the best for the future.

Regards

Cameron Ross
