"Bunbury MGP Team"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I cannot rate the care and support highly enough of the MGP team in Bunbury. My primary midwife Demi was so supportive, informative and came with a great sense of humour helping me and my husband feel really comfortable throughout our pregnancy, birth and post-natal journey. Although my plans for birth changed at 37 weeks after finding out baby was breech, she was there every step of the way providing me with information and resources on conservative options to try and get baby to turn. Even though my ECV attempt to try and turn the baby was also not successful I was still able to enjoy my birth experience of an elective c-section in March this year. Post-natal, Demi helped me through some hard times with ups and downs in emotions and breast feeding struggles so I felt empowered to make the best decision for my wellbeing and mental health as well as my son. She also was able to support my husband in his journey as a first time dad in answering his many questions, providing education and encouragement.

We were also lucky to work with another midwife, Amy, on a few occasions who was also kind, warm and kept calm when we had a small scare in clinic requiring a quick trip to hospital for some monitoring for a few hours.

Combined with support from the lactation consultant Harriet at the Australind clinic I was able to give breast feeding my best shot. Even though it didn’t work out due to pain issues ongoing, I felt comfortable and happy in being able to make the switch to baby being formula fed despite societal pressures and stigma that “breast is best”.

For anyone looking to have a positive and supportive pregnancy and birth experience, MGP is an amazing service and I hope to be able to link in with this service again should we be fortunate to have another baby.

Dear hotelrd46,

Thank-you for taking the time to write in your feedback. I have passed on your kind words to Demi, Amy, the MGP team and Harriet. Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

It sounds like your pregnancy, birth and introduction to motherhood was quite a journey with a few twists and turns. Pregnancy, labour and birth has a wonderful way of not going the way we plan sometimes, but I'm so glad you felt informed, supported and well cared for by Demi, Amy in MGP and Harriet in the Breastfeeding Support services.

We are very grateful for your feedback. We hope your parenting journey is going well - Happy Mother's Day for Sunday!

Warm regards,

Amy Gumbrell
