"Long Wait, Great Care"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Emergency Department Perth Children's Hospital / Ward 3C - Surgical Short Stay Same Day Pre OP Same Day Post Op Recovery/PACU

(as a parent/guardian),

My child presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain. It was a busy day, but the staff I saw worked well together under pressure. There were plenty of visible nurses in ED, which was very reassuring and helped us feel that our child was in good hands.

After assessment and testing, appendicitis was diagnosed, and we were eventually moved to Ward 3C to wait for surgery. It was frustrating to wait more than 24 hours from the time of presentation before the operation could be done, but throughout that time, the staff remained calm, attentive, and kept us informed. They monitored our child closely and did everything they could to manage their comfort and care.

The surgery was ultimately performed smoothly and successfully. We are very grateful for the care provided by all involved

Dear Pixie,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We greatly appreciate your thoughtful feedback and are pleased to hear that our staff provided reassurance and compassionate care during what must have been a stressful time for your family.

We understand that waiting for surgery can be frustrating, and we regret that the process took longer than hoped. Please know that our team works diligently to prioritise patient needs while maintaining the highest standards of care. Your kind words about the attentiveness and professionalism of our staff are truly valued, and we will ensure they are passed on to the teams in the Emergency Department and Ward 3C.

Most importantly, we are relieved to hear that your child’s surgery was successful and that you felt supported throughout the experience. We wish your child a smooth and speedy recovery and hope they are feeling much better.

Warm regards
