"Lack of telehealth advice"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Telehealth

(as a parent/guardian),

I rang admin telehealth and an assistant answered I said I was concerned about my child and was told to just come to the hospital. I was upset about this as I am in regional area and not easy to do. I rung for advice and thought I would be put through to my doctor or clinic I saw for direction.

Dear smitd65

Thank you for your feedback about your recent experience. I understand that accessing healthcare in a regional area can be challenging, especially when seeking immediate advice about a child’s health. It’s completely understandable to feel frustrated when the support you were hoping for wasn’t available.

Unfortunately doctors are not always available to take calls directly and in situations like these, Telehealth staff aim to provide guidance, which sometimes means recommending a hospital visit to ensure timely medical care. I apologise if your particular circumstances were not taken into consideration when the advice was provided.

We would like to understand what occurred in this instance in more detail and if you are open to this, would encourage you to contact the Child and Family Liaison Service by phone on 6456 0032 or by email at CAHSFeedback@health.wa.gov.au.

Warm regards,

Shaun O'Neill
