"Pregnancy and birth at King Edward Memorial Hospital"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I just wanted to write to share our gratitude for the incredible care we received through the MGP 4 program at King Edward Memorial Hospital. Throughout my pregnancy, our principal midwife Steph was a fantastic source of knowledge and support. As a first time mum, she fielded a lot of (sometimes silly) questions and helped to put my mind at ease. I was nervous during pregnancy and being able to call the midwifery team was incredibly helpful.

I also am also extremely grateful for the in person birth workshop we attended at KEMH enough. Before attending I was really afraid of birth and regretting not opting for a planned caesarean. By the end of the workshop I felt empowered and even a little bit excited to give birth - something I didn’t think was possible. On the day I went into labour, our secondary midwife Ellie was on call. Ellie also looked after me when I was more than a week overdue and gave me some great advice which improved my mental state and made me feel like I had a bit more control over the situation.

During labour, Ellie was phenomenal. With fairy lights and a diffuser she created an environment of calm. She encouraged me to push through without an epidural and instead consider a water birth. It was very different to what I had planned - but so much better than what I could have ever imagined.

Ellie’s guidance made my baby’s birth an incredible experience that I will always treasure and I can’t thank her enough. The after care and support from these amazing women was also fantastic, with house calls until my baby was about 8 days old. Knowing that there was someone to reach out to in those scary early days was such a relief. I am so grateful for the care I received at KEMH and will be recommending the MGP program to my pregnant friends in the future.

Dear volanssyx96,

Congratulations on your new baby, and thank you for sharing your heartfelt experience. It sounds like Steph and Ellie were truly exceptional in providing the support and care you needed throughout your pregnancy and birth. It's wonderful to hear how the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) 4 program at King Edward Memorial Hospital made such a positive impact on your journey as a first-time mum.

Your story about the birth workshop and how it transformed your feelings about giving birth is incredibly inspiring. Your birthing experience demonstrates the positive benefits of the continuity of care provided by the MGP 4 team and am pleased to hear the care you received exceeded your expectations. I will be sure that your very kind feedback is passed on to Steph and Ellie. As you've highlighted, they are incredibly professional and knowledgeable, and we're lucky to have them on our team!

Wishing you and your family all the very best.

Delaney
