"MGP Care"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was fortunate to have my last 2 babies through the MGP model of care and had the same midwife for both of these births.

With this being my 3rd and last birth it was so special to have my care with someone who knew me better than just another random care provider that I see every time I have an appointment. My midwife was the most supportive, informative and caring person who both respected my wishes and made sure I was as well informed as I could possibly be. I attribute both of my successful VBAC stories to her being there for me and giving me the confidence that I could do it.

The continuity of care having the same midwife for my whole pregnancy and to have more than one pregnancy with her was honestly life changing for me. I felt safe, heard and like my concerns were heard by someone who cares. I felt like I had my own birth cheerleader rooting for me the whole way and it was always the boost of confidence I needed while I experienced very difficult pregnancies. If it wasn't for my midwife and the care she provided me, my dream of having more than 2 children would not have come true because I was honestly traumatised by birth after having my first baby.

The care I received from my midwife and those whose sometimes filled her place in MGP was life changing for me. I went from fearing birth and being traumatised by it to feeling confident in myself and having a beautiful story to look back on. Birth was still difficult the last 2 times but having someone there who knew me and my wishes and could advocate for me accordingly made the world of a difference.

I am forever grateful for the care I received and could never possibly thank my midwife enough for the part she played in my positive birth experiences.

Dear ophiuchusrt34

Congratulations on the birth of your third baby, and thank you for sharing your story with us!

We’re delighted to hear about your positive experience with our Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) at King Edward Memorial Hospital. Having the same midwife, who knew you and your needs, must have been incredibly reassuring and comforting. The way she respected your wishes, provided you with the information you needed, and stood by you through your second and third pregnancies is a testament to the incredible impact that continuity of care can have. Our MPG midwives are truly remarkable, and your gratitude is beautifully expressed.

We would love to be able to pass on your thanks directly to the MGP midwife who cared for you. If you’d like to reach out to our Consumer Liaison service by phone on 6458 1444 or email (WNHSCLS@health.wa.gov.au ), we will pass your thanks on directly.

Thanks again for such lovely feedback.

Best wishes

Delaney
