"Exceptional care from triage nurse in ED at SCGH"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My adult daughter has had mental health problems for many years and I have taken her to ED on multiple occasions. Taking an adult child to ED for what you consider to be a mental health emergency, can be very awkward. I often feel as though I'm having to fight for recognition of what I'm concerned about.

A few nights ago I became very concerned about my daughter's behaviour. I wasn't sure whether I should take her to ED or not. It is such a taxing experience - maybe they wouldn't think the problem was bad enough to take up their time.

I decided I would take that risk and took my daughter to SCGH ED. I was so pleased when my daughter and I were greeted by a lovely triage nurse named Ellen. She was completely empathetic and recognised how concerning the situation was. She followed up with me when my daughter was admitted into the ED to see how I was. Ellen gave me food and kindness, and made what was a very difficult situation much more bearable.

Dear telescopiumdh68,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience while accompanying your daughter to the Emergency Department (ED) of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. I was so pleased to hear that your daughter received the care she needed and that your concerns about her mental health were recognised and listened to.

I will ensure that your kind words of appreciation are passed on to Nurse Ellen, together with mine. We are very fortunate to have such dedicated and professional staff within our health service who are committed to providing patients and their families with the best possible care and treatment.

Wishing you all the best.

Kind regards,

Jodi Graham
