"Feedback on Recent Maternity Stay"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity Busselton Health Campus / Maternity Unit, Childbirth & Parenting Education

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth and wanted to share my heartfelt thanks for the incredible care I received throughout my maternity journey at both Busselton and Bunbury hospitals.

My overall experience was overwhelmingly positive, and I feel so fortunate to have been supported by such a dedicated and compassionate team. At both the Busselton Hospital (in clinics, on the ward prior to my transfer to Bunbury and during our post Natal in home visits) and at Bunbury hospital.

A special mention must go to my midwife in the birthing suite—Eilish—who I was incredibly fortunate to have by my side during labour and birth. Her care, calm presence, and expertise were exceptional. I felt so supported and reassured throughout the entire experience, and I’m truly grateful to her for helping guide the safe arrival of our daughter.

Would also like to say a big thank you to midwives Megan, Cat, Bintu, and several others whose names I’ve unfortunately forgotten (but who were just as amazing), made me feel safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. Whilst admitted to the postnatal ward. I also want to acknowledge the wonderful work of the other staff such as the doctors, Physios, PCAs etc everyone played a role in making my stay so positive.

Our time in the Special Care Nursery, though brief, was emotionally challenging. Being separated from your newborn is never easy, but the kindness and professionalism of the SCN nurses Amy, Hayley, Charlotte, Jude, Cassia, and many others—truly helped ease the stress. It was incredibly reassuring to know that my baby was in such capable and caring hands. Their support extended not only to her but also to me, as a parent navigating the unfamiliar and emotional experience of having a baby in SCN

The only area I feel could be improved is the condition of the residential units. While I was grateful to have accommodation post-discharge, I felt the units were not as clean as they should have been and there appeared to be an ant problem. On several occasions, my meals went missing, which was difficult to manage while recovering postpartum.

Despite that, I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved in my care. Your kindness, knowledge, and dedication made a real difference during one of the most important times in my life.

Dear likeablekj45,

Thankyou for taking the time to share your birth and postnatal experiences across the South West Maternity Services. It is our goal to ensure that we provide seamless care if you require transfer between sites, and I was pleased to read that we were able to support you, and your family through your journey.

I will forward your kind words to all the members of the multidisciplinary team. One of the WACHS values is of community, and although this is often seen as the community outside the hospital walls, I like to think of us as a healthcare community within the walls. We all rely on each other to perform our role in ensuring we provide the highest quality care and compassion to those in care.

I note that you have made comment on the residential units, and the misplacement of your meals. I apologise that he provision of your meals, and I will be looking at the current process of ordering and delivery to identify where the gaps may exist. The condition of the units has been raised at an executive level, and we are currently working on undertaking some renovations, as you say they are rather old and dated.

Once again, thankyou for your comments. I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind regards,

Katrina Jones
