I went to Wyong hospital about 2 months ago.The care I received was excellent from the admitting staff through to the discharge staff. The pre theatre staff care was excellent as care given by the theatre staff were excellent, and post recovery staffs care was excellent and day surgical staff were very good too, however when I got sent to the discharge lounge area the nurse in the discharge area had a very poor attitude. I’m a nurse and had a nurses cardigan with me , the discharge nurse accused me of stealing a nurses cardigan , in the presence of other patients , who were also being discharged ..Needless to say I was mortified and informed said nurse the cardigan belonged to me.I sent the hospital an email post procedure, they were sympathetic to my story and apologised to me . Overall I cannot fault my care, it was mainly the attitude of the discharge nurse that I found confronting and disappointing.
Moreover I felt dizzy and felt faint prior to discharge the discharge nurse escorted about 10 discharge patient to the front foyer at no stage was I offered a wheelchair on discharge to take me to the front foyer of the hospital again that is where the discharge nurse failed letting the hospital down as well as their colleagues. The food was adequate and very welcoming post not eating for a day .The specialist explained the results of my tests also very professional as were most of the staff . It was the discharge nurse that marred the day, and I felt was not professional and discourteous to me. I hope the hospital addressed this failure of one nurse in the chain of events , as it isn’t pleasant or nice to be accused of being a thief and also I wasn’t informed of the outcome of my complaint.
"Positive care but negative discharge experience"
