"Discharge and results not provided"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Medical Ward Bunbury Hospital / Outpatients Clinic PathWest Perth Collection Centre

(as a parent/guardian),

My school aged child experienced vomiting and dehydration for over 6 hours after school. Since their condition did not improve, we took them to Regional Bunbury Hospital, where they were admitted for 4 days. During their stay, multiple doctors assessed my child and ordered tests (blood, urine, stool). Initially, they were diagnosed with a viral infection, but on the second day, a doctor suspected a bacterial infection and started a 7-day course of antibiotics. My child improved and was discharged.

We have been waiting over a week for the results of all their tests from Bunbury Hospital and PathWest. Despite numerous inquiries, we have received only a minimal discharge summary, with no clear diagnosis or test results. We remain unaware of the cause of my child's illness and have yet to receive any explanation or complete test results to determine if further investigation is needed.

Dear firefn64,

Thank you for providing your feedback.

PathWest provides the results of any pathology tests requested by your child's doctor, back to the doctor. Discharge summaries, often including pathology results, are subsequently prepared by the Doctors.

In the first instance we would recommend that you contact the hospital for your child's results or your normal GP. However, if you do wish to obtain a copy of your child's pathology results then you can request a copy by via the PathWest Customer Contact Centre at CustomerContactCentre.PathWest@health.wa.gov.au or by contacting 13PATH.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Sura
