My mother-in-law has been suffering from brain ischemia for several years. This week, while staying at the family holiday home in Peaceful Bay, she had a series of falls, and was then observed to go into a 5 minute non-responsive state whilst eating. She was taken to Denmark Hospital and then transferred by ambulance to Albany Health Campus.
Once there, she was in the care of Dr Tom. He let us know when she arrived, when she was sent for a CT scan, and then when she was tucked in for the night in short stay. He called my father-in-law, then me as the next closest person in the region, and then my sister-in-law in Perth to make sure we all had the information we needed about her condition. Much of what he reported was new to us, and the effort he put into explaining her condition and what had happened that day in layman's terms was very welcome and impressive.
We picked her up in the morning, and the doctor on shift said that Dr Tom's report had been extensive. My mother-in-law was feeling much better and could not stop singing the praises of "Dr Tom." She actually said "If I lived in Albany, I'd be sick all the time!" Both she and my father-in-law were so pleasantly surprised and pleased at the individual care received, in contrast to the care they receive in the city. They say up there they feel like a number, and that no-one seems to actually care about the emotional welfare of patients like Dr Tom had.
The family would like to extend our warmest gratitude to Dr Tom and the staff at Albany Health Campus.
"Excellent care received by doctor"
