"Specialist / Hospital cancelling appointments"

About: Fremantle Hospital and Health Service

(as the patient),

I went to this specialist for my liver and they keep on making these appointments for me, I get to them and they keep on changing the date all the time. This is the third time they’ve done it to me. My liver is in a pretty bad way and I can’t get in to see a specialist. I believe if I had private insurance they would see me immediately. I go and see these staff members at the telehealth place, I don’t mean to take it out on them, but the specialist seemingly don’t want to know nothing about me.

I’m sick of them making these appointments, I’m sick of my health getting worse. My recent appointment was at 10:30. I got down there and the same thing has happened again! They don’t even bother to ring me up or text me, nothing to let me know they’ve changed the date. The office there tells me when I get there. I’m going from pillar to post they could at least text me or ring me up to let me know they’ve made a new one.

Imagine I had to drive all the way to Perth. I have driven 200 odd km. You’re the ones who have made the appointments, not me, and you’re cancelling them. My health is getting worse and worse.

You get to a certain age and in my experience, they’re just pushing you aside all the time. I’ve gone through 3 doctors in 6 months because none of them stay. In my opinion the health system is completely going to ***. We live in WA, the good state, and it’s going to ****.

I had scans done on my legs and I can’t barely bloody walk and the same thing happens with them. I have waited and waited and I haven’t had a phone call. They don’t even call me to let me know when I have an appointment. I can barely walk, I’m getting tireder and tireder and it’s just getting worse.

I’ve gone down to telehealth three times now and it’s the same thing. I haven’t seen anyone for 8-9 months now and it’s meant to be appointments every 4 months. They don’t even make appointments to get me bloods or ultrasounds done anymore. I ended up with hepatitis B. The worst one you can get. No one seems to want to see me.

Hello lacertahc87,

I am truly sorry to hear about your experience with your changing appointments and your disappointment within our Health Care system. When appointments are re-scheduled with little to no notice, it is a frustrating and inconvenient experience, especially if you were let down by a lack of communication. It sounds like you are awaiting appointments for a few health concerns.

As this platform is anonymous so we are limited to the information we can provide around your health care. However, as you have indicated that you do feel like your health and conditions are worsening, we advise you to go back to your GP to escalate any referrals you may have.

We would like to be able to provide further support so we encourage you to contact Fremantle Hospital Patient and Family Liaison (08) 9431 2787 or FHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au.

Kind Regards

Luke Dix

Acting Executive Director FSFHG
