"ED then paeds admission"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Bunbury Paediatric Ward Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I brought my child in last week. Straight into triage with a wonderful staff member (Andre, I think). Then not long taken into EDAC. Some staff here were great with blood tests and scans being ordered straight away, but others made no eye contact, no smiles, no explanations or reassurance that my child's observations were ok.  Plus 8hrs in there without any offers of food or drink made it a very long night.

But once we were on the paeds ward it was a totally different story. The staff were amazing! So kind and caring, particularly Shania. The support staff and doctors, too, were all fantastic and we felt safe and supported the whole time. Thank you!
Though, I understand the paeds staff are losing their "fun scrubs". I believe this needs to be reassessed as they make a child's hospital stay feel less clinical and scary. The patterns also serve as a conversation point and wonderful distraction technique during procedures.

Dear leost44

I sincerely hope your child is now on the path to recovery. Thank you for sharing your feedback—it has been passed along to both our emergency department staff and the paediatric ward.

We understand that the emergency department can be a busy and sometimes overwhelming environment, especially for children and their families. Providing reassurance and compassionate care is a priority for us, and we truly value your perspective. It is heartening to hear that our paediatric team met your expectations, as we strive to offer safe, high-quality care to all our patients.

Regarding the fun scrubs, I want to reassure you that they are not disappearing entirely but are currently under review as part of the hospital’s scrubs provision. We appreciate your thoughts on this and will keep them in mind as we move forward.

Once again, I hope your child is continuing to recover, and we sincerely appreciate your feedback

Yours sincerely

Karen Horsley

Service Co-Director
