I was a patient at Prince of Wales Hospital recently for a Hernia procedure.
After I arrived and was being prepared for surgery, MJ was sensational, I was very calm and unfazed by my upcoming operation but MJ was preparing multiple patients consecutively, adjusting perfectly to meet everyone’s needs, appropriately timed humour and compassion meant everyone was at ease and the ward was so calm, a true delight to be cared for by MJ.
Kristy escorted two other patients and myself to the operating theatre, settling us all and handing us over yo the next phase, very much showing care and compassion to the varying levels of nervous patients under her care - seeing Kristy pre and post operation evoked the same feelings as if you had a family member by your side.
The theatre staff and surgeons were incredible, watching eight people move seamlessly around each other whilst prepping me was unbelievable (I work in a field requiring a lot of coordination, and this was like watching a masterclass), the nurse prepping me (her name escapes me, but perhaps Chasity/Charlotte/Chrystal) was awesome, informative and engaging with me as I was asking questions, even the ones not directly related to the surgery, including some humour, I felt very much at ease the whole time, I was quite cold transferring to the operating table but this was quickly sorted, with blankets and then eventually anaesthetic.
Waking in recovery, and with Marie (or Maree) was equally as comforting, I’m sure it’s all very much standard procedure but she was talking a student through the many phases and steps of a patient in recovery whilst also caring for me, at no point did I feel anything other than her first priority, with “pain protocol” (I learnt that yesterday) being administered efficiently and with each step being explained along the way, I was surprised (albeit dazed) with how quickly the pain medication was taking effect, with Marie managing a few patients and a student consecutively, it was so comforting but amazing to watch.
After being transferred back to the ward, Kristy took over instantly, again, that familiar face meant I remained at ease and knowing I was in great care.
A third year nursing student also assisted Kristy with BP tests, she was great but in even better care under Kristy and MJ, both tremendous nursing staff.
Thank you very much for the professional care, I was at ease throughout every step, and I absolutely believe this feedback is necessary because everyone, from my surgeon Dr Gandy, to his team and the nursing staff supporting him were true professionals, it’s easy to become automated in our work places, but I felt like their only patient throughout every step.
Thank you Dr Robert, MJ, Kristy, Marie and Chasity (apologies for not remembering everyone’s name), I’m at home recovery and feeling very well cared for.
Kind Regards
