Recently I flew in via RFDS after experiencing Atrial Fibrillation. Was told going to PT Hedland then Perth to see the cardiologist.

Stayed the night in Emergency dept . Next day told would be flying to Perth to see the cardiologist. Spent all day in emergency dept.

Next day told would be flying to Perth for cardiologist. Spent all day and night in emergency department. Once again no sleep because of the constant yelling in emergency. Next day had a cardiologist come somewhere near my room who made a decision for a cardiac procedure next week in Perth.

Stayed the night in a ward, my first shower, had a jug of water in my room and OMG a TV. Next day told you are now discharged. Thanks for coming. $844 for Virgin flight, will have to find accommodation in Perth until my procedure.

The staff in ED were absolutely awesome and I thank them for everything they did. The doctors and decisions made by them in regards to being discharged whilst in AFib and with very low blood pressure and the chance of getting a clot was absolutely appalling. I feel the integrity of these lot leaves a lot to be desired. Even the private hospital stated that the hospital had a duty of care to fly me down to them.

One person actually told be that an RFDS plane was on its way to take me to the cardiologist on the day before discharge.

Even one of the nurses actually told me to take this matter further as it happens all the time. At the time of writing this story, I had been discharged for 5 hours and waiting for an $844 fared plane to take me to Perth in 3 more hours.

Dear Peevedoffpatient

Thank you for sharing your experience, and for your kind words about the Emergency Department staff.

I can understand how difficult and frustrating this situation must have been, particularly with the uncertainty around your care, the decision to discharge you, and the challenges with regards to travel and accommodation in Perth. I truly appreciate you bringing this to my attention.

To better understand what occurred and ensure that appropriate actions are taken, I would like to know more about your experience. This will help me look into the matter thoroughly and investigate the areas of concern you’ve raised.

Please feel free to contact me at your convenience so we can discuss this in more detail.
