Cannot speak highly enough of the pre and post natal experience I received through the Family Birth Centre at King Edwards Memorial Hospital Family Birth Centre, it is like a home away from home. I felt very lucky. My mid wife Viv was there for me from our first appointment at 18wks to delivery at 40wks and then through my first and last home visits. Truly world class. Further, Viv and Emily recognised immediately that my umbilical cord had snapped on delivery and acted quickly to make sure there were no issues. They were calm and knowledgeable. I delivered early evening and was discharged by midnight.
The day I went into labour I felt very comfortable calling Viv, and making a plan to come in to the birth centre. Having a known midwife, with her familiar face and voice support me through labour alongside my partner provided the certainty I needed when I started feeling fearful and like I couldn’t continue towards the end. My beautiful baby boy was born via water birth and placed on my chest by Viv. The greatest gift of all.
