My child was a re-presentation within 3 days of being discharged from BRH. Initial triage was fine, easy and thorough - thank you. They were given a triage 3, but it took 2hrs and 15mins to be taken through to EDAC. In that time, we had one set of observations done, no offers of pain relief, noone even checking on my child who was literally laying across three chairs.
When we got through, it took another 2hrs for bloods to be taken (which they then couldn't find and tried to take again, to which i refused as it was distressing too for my child). They lost my child's charts also.
We finally saw surgeons and paediatricians 7-8hrs after we arrived and got to the ward 10hrs after arrival. No offers of food or drinks. Saw very few staff members at all.
The night nurse on EDAC was incredible though and provided a level of care that should be a standard.
It was a very disappointing experience. No child should be given a triage 3 based on their pain levels and be left unseen for over 2hrs with no monitoring in the waiting room.
"ED disappointing"
