I presented to Bunbury regional hospital emergency department in mid-2024 for severe malnutrition.
I had completely lost my appetite, had lost 10% of my body weight in 2 months, was going up to a whole week without consuming food, could not stay awake, could not eat without throwing up, I had absolutely no energy. Every morning I would have extreme loose bowel movements.
Upon presentation to the hospital I felt I was immediately treated like this was an illness I was putting myself through, basically anorexia nervosa. I tried to speak to doctors about how I wanted to eat but couldn’t, I wanted to gain weight, I wanted my appetite back, I wanted my energy back but in my opinion, all they saw was a person purposely starving themselves so they did no investigation whatsoever, they just said they would admit me under WAEDOCS and got psych involved just because of my history 5+ years ago, nothing to do with the issue I was presenting with.
I believe the doctors didn’t want to listen to me because I was a young person of a certain gender. I remained very sick for a long time due to the doctors decisions about my care plan at bunbury regional hospital
"Not actually caring about my symptoms"
