"I lost most of my vision in my right eye."

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Outpatient Department (Eyes & General)

(as the patient),

After 6 weeks of a headache. My GP did blood tests. Results high white blood cell count. I've had that for 10 years. We then had a brain scan. No problems detected. 3 weeks later I lost vision in my right eye. My GP sent me to The Sydney Eye Hospital.

I was admitted, a few tests. I was diagnosed as having Giant cell arthritis. Thanks to Dr Raymond and his team 8 days of treatment they stopped my immune system from attacking my optical nerve saving the balance of my vision. Every Doctor, nurse, cleaner treated me with the utmost respect and care.

As an outpatient I had many more tests and appointments.  I was running out of my prescription for the special medication injections I was on. My GP said he was not authorised to prescribe it. Or arrange to fix the problem. I travelled back to the Sydney Eye Hospital Emergency department. Within 30 minutes a triage nurse Theresa. Brought up my file and sorted the problem.

Again the system works and the staff deserve the utmost respect for their dedication and commitment.
