My first pregnancy labour in 2022. I was in hospital for 6 days due to membrane tear before I had gone into labour. I was pregnant with my baby and their deceased twin at 31 weeks. The hospital basically told me we are just waiting for you to go into labour before making a plan. I had 0.5mils then no amniotic fluid at all by the time i was in labour.
I felt the midwife on that night I went into labour completely disregarded me did not believe I was in labour. At 5 minute contractions I was offered a sleeping pill, sandwich and a cup of tea with, I recall, how about that. I grudgingly accepted as I was unsure, it was my first labour so I thought my midwife had known best.
I woke up about an hour later with 3 minute contractions so I called my midwife again. They told me they will go get the contractions machine then and we shall see shall we, in a not so comforting tone. Took a long time before they even came back, by the time they did I had the need and feeling to push my body was doing it on auto.
I told the midwife I need to push and tried to take off my shorts as they were restricting. The midwife had and I kid you not, held onto my shorts telling me I am not in labour and don't need to push. So i pressed the emergency button and 4 other midwives rushed in. One asked what was going on? Seeing the midwife holding onto my shorts and my in tears and in pain. The midwife then states that I was saying I am in active labour and that they hadn't even begun to time my contractions yet. The other midwife asked if they had checked my dilation.
I recall my midwife said no and the other midwife said if I said I am in labour that's the first thing they should check. The other midwife then checked me and they said I was already fully dilated and bubs head is out of the cervix. This midwife asked my midwife to leave after that and I had taken my shorts off and thrown them to my midwife and said "put those on the table please". I'm normally very kind to nurses and medical professionals but I felt this personal was unprofessional and uncaring as they came. In what I believe was a result of these actions, I had a painful not medicated sunny side up, dry birth resulting in a 4th degree tear.
I ended up with post natal psychosis, I struggled to hold my wee baby in nicu without flashbacks to the labour room. Not even an hour after labour in my hospital room did they try to discharge me before I even held my baby for the first time. I ended up breaking down and the head nurse told them all to get out of my room that I wasn't going anywhere for 3 days as states on my report for the fact I had a precipitous birth to my 31 week baby and their stillborn sibling. Very traumatic experience for me.
