"My MGP Experience"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I cannot recommend the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) at King Edward Memorial Hospital highly enough. Being primarily cared for by Em and her buddy Chloe, I felt deeply supported every step of the way. After discovering I was pregnant outside the coverage window of my private health insurance, I was devastated — I believed I wouldn’t be able to access the kind of maternity care my family members had enjoyed with private obstetricians. To my surprise, the experience I had with MGP turned out to be even more exceptional than I ever imagined.

The care I received throughout my pregnancy and birth was truly second to none. Em and Chloe were consistently present, compassionate, and reassuring. Their availability, contactability, and unwavering support made me feel incredibly safe, heard, and confident at every stage of the journey. I feel truly blessed to have been looked after by such dedicated midwives and will be forever grateful to them for helping bring my beautiful baby girl into the world.

This exceptional level of care continued when I came out of my C-section and was handed over to Midwife Mick. Her genuine warmth, clinical expertise, and unwavering compassion will forever hold a very special place in my heart. She single-handedly set me up for motherhood in ways I never knew were possible, guiding me with empathy, knowledge, and strength when I needed it most.

The only way my experience at King Edward Memorial Hospital could have been improved is if my husband had been allowed to stay for the full duration of my hospital stay. I understand this policy is determined at the hospital level and is not a reflection on MGP itself. While I deeply appreciate the intent behind maintaining a safe and secure environment for women, I do feel that there should be avenues or flexibility to allow partners to remain with new mothers during this transformative and often vulnerable time.

From start to finish, the MGP team provided care that was deeply personal, professional, and empowering. I will always be grateful for the support I received and feel incredibly lucky to have had such a positive birth experience.
