"No X-rays for 2 weeks!"

About: Outpatients

(as the patient),

I live in a remote area (over 100kms out of Tom Price). Called ahead as I required an x-ray on my foot. Was advised the radiologist was leaving town that day but that the new radiologist would be in town next week. Was told I could come in that afternoon or Monday next week. Opted for the Monday due to work schedule.

When I arrived, I was told the radiologist hadn’t arrived - drove all that way for nothing. Was advised they’d be there on weds and available from then. I arrived on Thursday and was told the radiologist was there but couldn’t do anything due to an ‘IT issue’. Couldn’t guarantee for when they could do anything due x-ray. Absolutely hopeless in my opinion!

I fly to Perth soon to see the referring specialist and at this rate will not have had the required x-ray meaning whole trip to Perth is wasted. So frustrating given the radiologist is there, apparently doing nothing because of an IT issue! 600kms driven and a flight to Perth - at this stage for nothing. Absolutely hopeless, surely this can be escalated - everyone has IT issues, sort it out!

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your recent experience at Tom Price Hospital regarding the challenges you have had in obtaining an X-ray.

I am very sorry that we have caused you stress and frustration and acknowledge how hard it must be to organise work and travel to get to the hospital for investigations for your particular health issue.

We recognise that we have work to do to improve our older hospital sites abilities to provide the services the community need to remain close to home but still receive high quality care.

I would like to know more about what happened so we can initiate a thorough review with our Tom Price team. If you are happy to reach out, it would support us to further investigate why we did not communicate better with you so you could present at an appropriate time for your X-Ray to be taken. Please feel welcome to contact me at your convenience on 9144 7777 or email me at: Andra.Woods@health.wa.gov.au.

Kind regards
