"The waiting system"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital

(as the patient),

I went on a waitlist to see a gyno for potentially having endometriosis, I waited 3 years for an appointment, and when I finally got my first appointment since then it’s still been a waiting game. I’m very understanding that the health system is low in staff but the constant waiting for appointments and news is so draining, having all these years go by with no answers.

Recently I was meant to have a phone call appointment because my last in person appointment had to be cut short because of how busy they were, I waited all day yesterday for the call which was meant to be at 8.30am - and I never got it. I called the next day to follow up only to be told that the dr that was meant to call me wasn’t in yesterday or that day… so now more waiting goes with unanswered questions leaving me still stressed about my health. I believe this system needs help.

Dear Tata21,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I am sorry to hear about the frustration and uncertainty you have faced whilst waiting for a gynaecological outpatient appointment at FSH. We understand how important timely and clear communication is, especially when it comes to your health.

It’s particularly disappointing to read that after the long wait, you were provided with a telehealth appointment time only for the doctor not to call as scheduled. Please know that this is not the standard of care or communication we strive to provide all our patients and I would like to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience or distress this may have caused.

As Care Opinion is an anonymous platform, we invite you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service on 6152 4013 during business hours or via email FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au with your information to allow us to investigate this further.

Kind regards,

Luke Dix

A/ Executive Director
