About: Broome Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Crushed my L2 vertebrae transferred to Broome on a Saturday but had to wait until the Monday for a physio therapist as none available on weekends.

I felt anxious as was in emergency the whole time lying flat on my back

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at Broome Health Campus. We sincerely acknowledge and regret the distress caused by the delay in accessing physiotherapy support over the weekend, particularly given the seriousness of your injury and the impact it had on your comfort and wellbeing.

We understand how challenging it must have been to remain in the Emergency Department without access to the allied health services that could have supported your care and recovery. We agree that timely access to critical services such as physiotherapy is essential, and we are actively working to address this gap.

From 1 July, we are pleased to be implementing a trial of weekend allied health coverage as part of the WA Health Department’s Winter Strategy. This initiative aims to improve access to key services during peak periods, particularly over weekends, and better support patients like yourself.

While we recognise that your experience was not ideal, please be assured that your feedback has been taken seriously and has contributed to ongoing improvements in our service delivery. Our team remains committed to providing safe, compassionate, and timely care to all patients, and we thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
