"Care in the Emergency Department"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

In February I was in the emergency at Geraldton Regional Hospital for 3 hours. I was triaged pretty quickly and in to be assessed by a Doctor. There began a wonderful and re-assuring experience! I guess because I am getting on a bit, and was complaining of racing pulse that I was seen to so quickly but I do understand how triage works and was glad that I had been prioritised. I was frightened and anxious.

A young Nurse saw to me. Her name was Kim I am pretty sure - she told me she was from Queenslandand had studied her degree at USQ. Kim was excellent! Aren't we lucky to have her here in Geraldton! She calmed my fears with her friendly professionalism.

I was then seen by a young Doctor (I know, everyone is young except me), I am sure her name was Leisha but my discharge papers said Neesha. Wow, what a find she is! I believe I am so fortunate to have been looked after by such great medical staff. There were many other staff around during those few hours, who were kind and thoughtful. I simply failed to register their names. But they were all wonderful!

I left ED at GRH feeling (a lot!) better than when I arrived. I learned so much too. Leisha talked to me about the importance of magnesium and how that deficiency however minor was affecting how I had felt. I went away with that knowledge and now take a supplement. In all such a good experience.

Today I was telling Sasha at GRH about my experience and how positive it was. It was she who suggested this website - even Sasha was wonderful! What are they being fed there? I think that Geraldton and the Midwest Region are most fortunate to have these wonderful staff, who I believe are often abused, rarely thanked. In my opinion, they deserve so much more!
