"C-Section Birth Experience - Bunbury Regional Hospital"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I recently had my third C-section at Bunbury Regional Hospital and simply had to share my experience. My two previous cesareans in South Africa were very standard experiences - nothing went horribly wrong but nothing was particularly wonderful and memorable either. As someone who desperately wanted a 'natural' birth experience, I went into this third cesarean dreading the very clinical and cold experience that I assumed would await me.

I'm pleasantly surprised and incredibly grateful to share that my experience giving birth to our third child was very different to the previous two. From the antenatal appointments to the home visits by the midwives after birth, I felt incredibly valued and well-cared for throughout the journey.

Both my husband and I would like to express our deepest thanks to your team who made our third C-section delivery such a wonderful and memorable experience for us.

To the maternity unit and midwives team - I felt very well taken care of and my pain was always well-managed post op. Thank you for what you do for mums during the most vulnerable time of their lives. Thank you also for embracing our family during our hospital stay and making my husband feel so comfortable during his overnight stays with me.

To the antenatal clinic and obstetrics team - thank you for hearing me and valuing my preferences for the birth. Thank you for keeping me informed throughout the procedure and handling me with gentleness and professionalism.

To the anesthetics team - thank you for making the effort to meet me in person before the procedure and to patiently listen to my concerns and fears. Thank you for all your support during the procedure and for the quality of service received.

To the nursery and pediatrics team - thank you for reassuring us when and keeping us well-informed when our little boy needed immediate C-PAP post delivery. Even though he was only in your care for less than an hour, my husband was incredibly grateful for your care and prompt responses.

To the travelling midwives who visited baby and I at our home post-birth, thank you for how you support families in this big transition. Your work is valued and so appreciated.

I left the hospital post-birth feeling so grateful for my birth experience and simply had to send my thanks and appreciation to your beautiful team of people on behalf of myself and my husband. It’s been my best C-section recovery as well which has helped me a lot in coming back home to a house of three children.

Thanks again for the very warm and high-quality services received under the hospital’s care. We will hold this experience very close to our hearts always.

Dear OTmuminAU,

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby boy.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback of the entire unit here at Bunbury Maternity. We are so pleased that you have have had such a positive experience with all of our staff and despite being separated from your baby for a brief time while he spent time being cared for in the Special Care Nursery. We are happy he is doing so well now.

We are very proud of our team and the value and compassion they are instilled with to provide exceptional care to all of our families.

I will pass on your feedback to all of the staff you have mentioned, they will be very grateful to know you, your baby and indeed your family, have been so well cared for.

Again, congratulations and we wish you all well, in health and happiness, in embracing this new baby into your family.

Warm regards

Andrea Drew
