About: Prince of Wales Hospital / Emergency Department Prince of Wales Hospital / L4 NCCC - Haematology Oncology Day Centre (HODC)

(as the patient),

To Ward 4 North and Emergency at Prince of Wales Hospital

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude to all the staff – doctors, nurses and support teams - who provided outstanding care for me during my recent admission last month.

From the moment I arrived at Emergency around midday, I felt seen, heard and cared for. The compassion, professionalism and warmth from CeeCee (nurse) and Dr James was reassuring. Dr James was very informative and had a great bed-side manner. He explained that there was a Haematology team looking into my circumstance and it was led by Dr Tim. Nurse CeeCee was also very helpful and pleasant, filling me in on what care I was receiving and answering all my many questions. She remained focused, polite and cared for me showing great expertise and decisiveness. Dr James put in a canula and CeeCee began applying the IVIG treatment. My condition (ITP) had come back again after lying dormant for 4 years. Later, I was informed that a bed was ready for me in 4 North at around 10:30 pm. Nurse Maddie accompanied me up to the ward with Leo, who pushed me in the wheelchair. I felt well looked after by both. We chatted on our journey up to the ward and Leo arranged the bed in my room while Maddie handed over to the night nurse, Cam. I was still receiving the IVIG.

On arrival at ward 4 North, I immediately felt a sense of calm come over me. The room was impressive. Room 2 was a private room with an ensuite bathroom and large window. It was quiet and I felt at ease straight away. I called it Hotel POW. I knew I was in good hands. Cam, my night nurse for my 2-night stay at 4 North provided reassuring updates on my treatment, brought a quiet confidence into the room and helped me feel safe throughout the night. Her calm expertise and tireless dedication didn’t go unnoticed, and I will always remember the kindness that accompanied every act of care. It was clear to me that ward 4 North doesn’t just treat illness – it supports people with dignity, empathy and extraordinary skill.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for Dr Evan, the Doctor on duty at ward 4 North. His care and professionalism made a meaningful difference during my recent hospital stay. I felt Dr Evan demonstrated exceptional patience and clarity in explaining my condition, using straightforward language that was both accessible and respectful. His bedside manner was warm and reassuring—he never rushed our conversations and never made me feel uncomfortable asking questions. Not only did he address the reason for my admission, but he also thoughtfully took the time to explore some unrelated symptoms I had been experiencing at home, such as dizziness. Thanks to his clear explanations, I now have a better understanding of conditions like BPPV and postural hypotension. His attentiveness and genuine concern were truly appreciated.

On my second day in hospital, I was fortunate to be cared for by Nurse Tash and her supporting nurse, Bea. Both were exceptionally friendly and efficient, showing great attention to detail in organising my intravenous immunoglobulin treatment and ensuring my medications were correctly administered. Despite having many other responsibilities and patients to attend to, they took the time to check in on me and offer genuine care and conversation. Their professionalism, warmth, and dedication made a real difference to my stay.

I'd also like to extend my sincere thanks to Gina, the cleaner, and Benjamin, who delivered meals. Their kindness and respect left a lasting impression. Gina kept my room spotless and fresh each day with such care, and Benjamin brought not just delicious meals, but also little touches like biscuits and water. Their cheerful presence and attention to detail helped create a comforting environment that meant a great deal to me.

Leanne, a nurse from Ireland, cared for me during a busy afternoon shift, Despite the fast pace and many apparent demands on her time, she remained friendly, approachable, and always had a warm smile on her face. I truly appreciated her patience and willingness to answer my many questions with clarity and kindness, never making me feel like a burden. Her positive attitude and professionalism brought a sense of calm and reassurance during my stay.

On the day of my discharge, I was cared for by Nurse Haley, whose support made my final hours in hospital smooth and pleasant. She was clearly experienced and well-organised, completing all the necessary discharge paperwork efficiently, removing my cannula, and checking my vital signs with calm professionalism. What stood out most was her warmth—despite her busy schedule, she took the time to chat with me about things we had in common, which helped pass the time. I deeply appreciated her friendly nature and the gift of her time.

The extraordinary dedication of the hospital staff I saw, in an environment where I believe high-pressure situations can arise without warning, the staff of 4 North and in emergency remained positive, calm, and compassionate. I believe these individuals are not just medical professionals—they are also counsellors, advocates, educators, and tireless caregivers, often on their feet for long hours without pause. I feel that their ability to balance clinical expertise with empathy and clear communication is a rare kind of strength that keeps a hospital functioning with successful outcomes. Please accept my sincere thanks for being a team of such exceptional individuals. I feel incredibly fortunate to have received your care.

Kind regards
