"Surprisingly unexpected"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus

(as the patient),

When you have an appointment, you go through the usual. Another appointment you can tick off your list.

This visit, I was expecting just that but I went in. Had good news from the start and the dr went through my paperwork, spoke about some health issues I have, which was normal. No one has ever said lets try and do something about it. I have asked multiple times over the years if theres anything that may help but everyone either isn't specialised in it or say its not important so I had given up on even mentioning it.

But my dr this time was the one that said, no, we are doing something about it. I was almost in tears. Since being a teenager and finally now someone who can see and knows what they're talking about.

It's not life threatening or anything bad but being self-conscious every day does start to weigh you down.

A thousand stars for dr Bernd and nurse Catherine at the kalgoorlie outpatient clinic.

Dear aprilzb89

I can see why you shared your good news story with us and it will give me great pleasure in sharing your story with Dr Bernd and Nurse Catherine. We will also share your story with our other teams to remind of the importance of communication between clinicians and patients and that, as frustrating as it can be for patients, we rely on them to tell us how they are feeling, share their concerns and no matter how busy we are as clinicians we need to investigate and follow up.

We must not dismiss the impact that a clinician's work and words can have on a patient’s recovery. Your story emphasises the importance of empathy and communication within our hospital and what a difference it can make.

I do hope that you continue to improve in your health journey.

Kind regards,

Margaret Smillie
A/Director Kalgoorlie Health Campus
