"Waited 7 and a half hours for nothing"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Had an emergency referral for a mesenteric cyst on my bowel which is causing distention, pain, obstruction, and arrived at ED.

Had a canula inserted within 10 minutes so bloods taken, then waited 7 and a half hours only to be told I was out of area and would have to find a private bowel surgeon, very disappointed.

Dear listenfx46

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. I’m truly sorry to hear about your pain and for any distress you endured during your visit. I can only imagine how difficult that experience must have been for you.

While I'm glad that our team was able to act quickly with the initial steps, I completely understand how the prolonged wait and the referral outcome would have left you feeling frustrated. That’s not the experience we want any patient to have with our service.

Your feedback is incredibly important to us. We're committed to learning from this and working towards more compassionate, responsive care for every patient. If you feel comfortable to do so, we would encourage you to make contact with our Patient Experience team via email rpbg.feedback@health.wa.gov.au or telephone 08 9224 1637, so we can investigate your concerns and identify areas for improvement.

Wishing you a smooth path to recovery,

Warmest regards,

Ben Noteboom
