"Maternity Care"

About: St George Hospital / 1 South Maternity St George Hospital / Birthing Centre / Delivery Suite

(as the patient),

I wish to express my heartfelt thanks for the exceptional midwifery and medical care I received throughout my pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey.

I was under the care of the MGP program and always felt informed, supported, and truly listened to—particularly by midwives Mikaela and Kat, whose compassion and professionalism gave me confidence at every step. At 39 weeks, I was induced due to concerns about my blood pressure and the potential for pre-eclampsia. While I was initially anxious, I quickly felt at ease thanks to the gentle and reassuring care of Midwife Fay, who started the induction process with such kindness and attentiveness.

The induction progressed much faster than expected, and Midwife Deb was assigned to support me in the birthing suite. Her calm presence and steady guidance were exactly what I needed in such an intense and emotional moment. With her coaching, I was able to deliver my baby quickly and safely, and I will always remember her strength and encouragement during that experience.

Throughout labor, the medical team, including Dr. Sarah, kept us well-informed of our options, which helped me feel secure and empowered. After birth, Fay continued to care for me, always generous with her time and advice. One of the moments I appreciated most was her taking the time to show us, as first-time parents, how to bathe our newborn—a small act that meant so much.

During our stay on 1 South, Midwife Claire provided excellent day-shift care and expressed complete confidence in my ability to breastfeed, which gave me the reassurance I needed in those early, uncertain days. Her encouragement made a lasting impression.

The follow-up care through the MGP program has been fantastic, helping us feel supported and guided as we adjusted to life as new parents. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in our journey—your care not only ensured a safe delivery but also left us feeling seen, respected, and nurtured during such a transformative time.
