After a good, efficient experience being triaged and getting an X-ray, we have been left in the waiting room for 3 hours with zero communication. With 2 bones snapped, we knew some sort of treatment was needed but no one could tell us whether that was surgery the next day or just resetting and casting that night.
When asked whether my child could eat since they hadn’t eaten since lunch 8 hours ago, no one could tell us that either. No one seemed interested in finding out any of these answers, so we were just sitting there waiting starving, still not having spoken to a doctor. If surgery isn’t required then eating would be fine and if surgery is required then it can’t be done until the next day anyway so eating before midnight would’ve been fine.
This seems a simple thing to work out but no one seems to care. A doctor taking one look at the X-ray would be able to tell what needs to be done. Maybe they have looked and decided but no one has seen fit to tell us. Maybe there are no beds so they don’t want to tell us we have to spend the night in the ED waiting room, if that is the case this system is ridiculous.
