"Care for a broken arm"

About: Broome Health Campus

(as the patient),

Getting follow up on a broken arm I felt that the health professionals did not take the time to explain to me what my injury actually was, and why it was being treated in a certain way. I was never shown an x-ray and the nature of my break/fracture was never explained. This left me anxious about what was going on and why certain decisions were made, I worried that the wrong treatment was potentially being given.

The practitioner began to cut through my cast using a small saw- I was surprised because the cast was fibreglass, and I thought it’s not safe to cut fibreglass? The doctor struggled to cut the cast and when I mentioned that I was fibreglass they then changed to scissors- unfortunately these were all blunt so I offered to help them unwrap the bandages and took the cast off with the practitioner. It’s fine that this happened, but it left me in doubt that I was receiving the correct care for my injury.
