This was my second birth with MGP. We had a mostly wonderful experience. I was lucky enough to be allocated the same midwife I had for the pregnancy of my first daughter three years ago, which was incredibly special. Having that relationship and trust already in place made such a big difference. Even though she wasn’t able to attend our daughter’s birth, the midwife who stepped in was also amazing, and we felt so well supported by the whole team.
For the birth of our second baby, everything just aligned, and thankfully our midwife was able to be there. She was absolutely incredible. Having a familiar face by my side made me feel so safe, supported, and empowered. She guided me through the pregnancy and was there coaching me through labour in a way that made me feel completely comfortable and well cared for. It’s something I’ll never forget, and I honestly wish more women had access to this kind of consistent, personal care. It really made all the difference.
Our baby was born around 10 p.m., and by the time everything was wrapped up — including stitches and checks — it was around 2 a.m. We were still processing the whole experience when some of the hospital staff began encouraging us to go home. Thankfully, our midwife advocated for us and made sure we could stay until morning, which we were so grateful for.
We were allowed to remain in the birth suite overnight rather than being moved to the ward. The idea of being sent home in the middle of the night just didn’t feel safe or reasonable.
Unfortunately, at 6 a.m., I was woken and told we needed to be gone by 7. After such a huge and emotional moment, that felt really, forced, abrupt and rushed. On top of that, because we were discharged so early, our baby wasn’t able to complete their hearing screening in the hospital. We had to return five days later for it, which felt unnecessary and quite disruptive.
Really hope King Eddies can review this and make sure mums and bubs don’t have to leave hospital in the middle of the night or so rushed in the morning. Other than that, MGP is truly phenomenal, and we’re so grateful for our lovely midwife and the amazing, continuous support we received during pregnancy and birth.
