"IBD team - gastroenterology unit"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Stomach, Bowel and Liver Care (Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

(as the patient),

I want to reach out to highlight some of the incredible work being provided by your IBD team.

Since 2016, I have been under the care of Dr Kannan and the IBD team as part of the Gastroenterology Department at Royal Perth Hospital, and my experience has been nothing short of exceptional. From my first engagement with the team all those years ago, I have not only seen the transformation of the services they have offered at RPH, but a transformation that has offered maintained a consistent, patient-oriented standard of care. I have been continually impressed by the dedication, expertise, and compassion exhibited by every member of the team, from staff through to contractors.

The IBD team and RPH staff have provided not only first-class medical care but also genuine emotional support and reassurance. My treatment has always been thorough and personalised (I have had two children throughout this journey), with the team demonstrating an ongoing commitment to both my physical health and overall wellbeing. Communication has been clear, empathetic, and patient-centred, making even the most complex aspects of my treatment easy to understand, especially for someone who doesn’t have a medical background.

I have seen first-hand how the staff go above and beyond for their patients, often working under significant pressure and with limited resources. Their ability to maintain such a high standard of care is a testament to their skill and dedication.

What is clear though, is that to continue providing this outstanding level of care to all their patients, the IBD team would benefit from additional support and resources. And it is pretty clear that the ever-increasing demand for medical support in the gastro fields will only continue to grow and stretch these highly qualified team members further.

I would encourage the RPH leadership team to consider the invaluable contribution the IBD team makes to lives and the opportunities that may be available to further support the IBD team to continue this kind of exceptional standard for patients, like myself. With their care and support I live a completely symptom free life – and that is all because of them.

Thank you, as always, to Dr Kannan and the incredible IBD team for their care, compassion and ultimately, the standard of life I get to live.
