"Care after a heart attack"

About: Geraldton Hospital Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as a service user),

I had a heart attack in may 2025 and attended local hospital then was air lifted to Charlie Gardener and had stents put in.

I will try to abbreviate this as much as possible if you require any more detail or specifics do not hesitate to inquire of me

Charlies well they where also great, it is however a shame they did not keep me there a bit longer to make sure i was going to be ok subsequently  i had to go back there after only a week, anyway i am sure they did their best.

Prior to my heart attack a tele health doctor via my local hospital advised  a scan and sent me to Geraldton regional for tests but I feel Geraldton ER couldn't get rid of me quick enough, fobbed me off as though nothing much was wrong and without a scan and with just a handful of steroids and go and see your GP and same sort of thing happened when i got sent back to Geraldton for scans and another suggested medication change after my second RFDS trip to Charlies.

That time I had to be quite insistent that they needed to follow Charlies suggested treatments which was not a comfortable position for me as I being so unwell

I have no complaints about the general staff at Geraldton and on other occasions i have been to Geraldton regional for various tests over time the general staff have always been professional i do however question the qualifications of some of the treating doctors who have just brushed me off as though there was nothing wrong with me, i am still considering if it is worth my while taking them to task= the initial treating doctor in particular as if i had been taken seriously the first time I believe I most likely wouldn't have had a heart attack and all the expense involved would not have been necessary anyway  as far as i am concerned Geraldton has an attitude problem = poor and the place seems to operate in a perpetual state of chaos. 3 times i have been to their ER and its been the same each time. In my experience the existing types of  problems  exhibited are most likely filtering down from poor management and on that basis i find it hard to be overly critical of the doctors and am somewhat sympathetic towards the actions of the general staff

Charlie gardner is pretty good and pretty much top shelf but I feel I should have been kept close by for probably a couple of weeks or at least advised to stay close by for a couple of weeks but no complaints really because other than that i don't think i couldn't have been in better hands and all the staff are the best.

I have written this as appreciation for the services provided me and hope that this might also be of assistance to all

Dear cyclonefp43,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about your experience in the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) Cardiology Department following your heart attack.

I was pleased to hear that you were happy with the care that you received and that you felt that you couldn’t have been in better hands.

I ensure that your kind words of appreciation are passed on to the staff in the Coronary Care Unit and Cardiac Catheter Lab, who I know will be delighted with the recognition.

I’m sorry to hear that you felt it would have been helpful to be advised to stay nearby for a couple of weeks. The Cardiology team decision would have been based on your clinical condition at the time, though I appreciate the discharge process may have felt sudden and unsettling.

Once again, thank you for your feedback. I hope you are continuing on the road to recovery.

Kind regards,

Jodi Graham
