"The treatment of my sibling"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Emergency Department Royal Perth Hospital / Respiratory Medicine & Ward 9C

(as a relative),

Recently my sibling collapsed, my parent brought them in to the small country town hospital. They made my sibling go via ambulance to the next town over, they said they were not equipped to deal with them so my sibling went to royal Perth. After almost 24 hours they were put on the the respiratory ward. They had a full chest of pulmonary embolism's.

They were only doing Panadol at the start, I believe they didn’t even realise my sibling couldn’t breath, their tummy looked bad, staff said that was normal and ended up giving my sibling meds they couldn’t have. Then gave my sibling meds for blood thinning but never told my sibling that they couldn’t have, then get internal bleeding. Heads up they now have that. They walked into my sibling's room and told them that since lunch was on its way, after my sibling can leave; no walking aid no nothing, not a heads up to my sibling only family in a 3 hr vicinity.

I called marthas rule aka the care call thing and not a 'how do you do' no nothing. I pushed and pushed till my sibling got a walking frame while I felt abused verbally by someone, it was rude and I felt they were trying to kick off with me, seemingly for caring about my sibling. Well guess what, at the time of writing this my sibling is now on their way to another hospital for internal bleeding and that may take upwards on 6 hours now. If my sibling passes away you best bet I’m seeking my lawyer as this isn’t right. I think if you couldn’t handle them or their situation I believe you should have told us we would have paid for private patient transfer.

Dear importermr88,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns and I am truly sorry to hear about what your sibling has experienced. It is clear this has been a deeply distressing time for both of you. Your feedback is taken seriously, and we understand how important it is to feel heard and supported when a loved one’s care does not meet expectations.

We have tried to work out your sibling’s specific details based on the information you have provided (both with the staff on 9C and also the staff who respond to our Aishwarya’s Care Call phone line), however have been unsuccessful. We would like to look into this matter further to ensure your concerns are properly addressed. I would be grateful if you would be willing to contact our Patient Experience team on (08) 9224 1637 or via email: RPBG.feedback@health.wa.gov.au who are dedicated to listening to you, investigating your concerns and improving patient care.

Thank you again for raising your concerns.

I hope your sibling is receiving the care they need and wish them a good recovery.

Kind Regards,

Ben Noteboom
