After being flown to an unfamiliar territory, I was terrified. Thoughts of loneliness, thinking my family are far from here, and people coming in and out to see me briefly with not enough information of what’s to come. (I’d never experienced triage beforehand)
I stuck it out with my main thought process of all this being beneficial for my health and well being.
Gradually I started having more trust in the nurses that would come to see me and what helped me the most during this process was meeting Doctor Raj. His communication was on point - I never had to ask questions because of the amount of detail in the information given was always enough. His history of working at one of the best hospitals in my home country(Nz) eased my anxiety. We were also able to create that bond and level of trust because he knows a lot about my culture, and the areas I grew up in.
From there on out I was quite comfortable for the remaining 4 days with these friendly faces, and the way everything was carried out has really made one of my first major Hospital/Medical experiences hopeful for the future.
