"MGP Care"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was lucky enough to be part of the MGP4 program at KEMH and received exceptional care throughout my pregnancy. Being my first pregnancy, I had many questions, and having the continuity of care from my allocated midwife, Elly, made me feel well supported and prepared. If I was ever worried about something, my mind was at ease knowing Elly was only a text or phone call away.

Although Elly wasn’t present at my birth, having another MGP midwife there made me feel equally supported and reassured that I had someone in my corner if I needed it.

I also appreciated the convenience of attending the MGP offices for appointments, rather than going into the main hospital, and being able to plan my appointments in advance around my work schedule was an added bonus.

Having this type of personal care, with a midwife who seems to genuinely love their job and advocates for you, is something I think all women should get to experience. I couldn’t imagine going through pregnancy and birth without this kind of support.

In addition to my experience with MGP, I received exceptional care during my stay in the hospital. The midwives on Ward 3 were caring, warm, and attentive, and nothing was ever too much trouble when I asked for help. I wish I had taken note of the names of the midwives who cared for me, as they truly deserve to be recognised.

While in Birth Suite, I again received outstanding care from the midwives before my MGP midwife arrived. I felt heard, supported, and most importantly, safe during my birth.

We also spent a few nights in SCN2, and I think the nurses there are incredible for what they do. We always felt in good hands and never once doubted the care we received. Being the first day with our new baby, they helped us with feeding, changing and always gave out welcomed advice and tips.

Based on my experience I cannot recommend MGP and KEMH enough. Exceptional care all round.

Dear pepperpx97,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for sharing your beautiful story with us!

I was so pleased to read about your positive experience with our Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) 4, especially the exceptional care you received from Elly, your primary midwife. Your reflections on the MGP model during your pregnancy and birth are truly appreciated. Your story highlights the powerful impact of continuity of care, and we’re so pleased that you felt safe, supported, and well cared for throughout.

It is also wonderful to hear that your positive experience did not stop there, and that you also received the same level of exceptional care from the Birth Suite, Ward 3, and Special Care Nursery teams. We would also love to share your thanks directly with the teams who cared for you, so if you’d like to reach out to our Consumer Liaison team, we can pass on your thanks to the individuals who made such an impact on you. We can be reached on (08) 6458 1444 or via email at WNHSCLS@health.wa.gov.au.

Thank you for taking the time to share your appreciation for not only MGP4, but King Edward Memorial Hospital as a whole.

Wishing you and your little one all the best.

Delaney
