Last month, I came to the Emergency Department at St George Public Hospital after a week of persistent fever caused by a swollen lymph node under my right ear. I was feeling anxious as it was my first time visiting this ED.
From the moment I arrived, I felt reassured. The receptionist greeted me kindly and quickly registered me. Shortly after, a nurse checked my blood pressure and temperature and gave me Panadol and Nurofen to help reduce my fever.
A little later, another nurse took blood for cultures, and I was sent for a CT scan to ensure there was no collection in my lymph node. I was truly impressed by how thorough and attentive the team was in investigating my symptoms.
While waiting for the results, another nurse returned to check my temperature and blood pressure again — a simple but very comforting gesture. Before seeing the doctor, I was examined by Fatima, a medical student who was gentle, attentive, and made me feel comfortable by really listening to my concerns.
When I finally met Dr David, his kindness immediately stood out to me. He was exceptionally patient and compassionate, taking the time to explain everything clearly and answering all my questions with genuine empathy. His calm and caring approach helped ease my anxiety during what was a stressful time.
Though my visit lasted over five hours, I understood that the delay was necessary for thorough testing and diagnosis. By the end, I left feeling not only treated but truly cared for.
My heartfelt thanks go to all the nurses (I’m sorry I didn’t catch your names), to Fatima, and especially to Dr David for his kindness, professionalism, and dedication. Your care made a difficult day so much easier, and I am very grateful.
