"Thankful for the AMGP"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practice (Aboriginal MGP)

(as the patient),

How do I thank you? Where do I even begin?

You gave me two of the best gifts I could have ever asked for - my baby, and a positive birthing experience.

You helped bring my baby girl into this world. You believed in me.

You, quite honestly, gave me the power to believe in myself.

You shared in an intimate moment with me, my fiancé, my mother and my baby and you handled it with leadership and grace.

I have given birth twice in my life. Once under the guidance of midwives (Aboriginal Medical Group Program at KEMH), and once under the guidance of an OB-GYN in Geraldton at anther hospital. Each birth was different - my first experience 4 years ago extremely traumatic with next to no support or care leaving me in distress with post natal depression for the last 3.5 years. And this time was the complete opposite, I had the amazing Dianne, Tamara and Jacinta lead me through such a magical pregnancy, birth and post care journey and there are no words that can express my gratitude.

I went from being isolated in a hospital bed where I could not get out of to comfort my crying newborn, being denied support and I recall getting told, you’ll work it out, when it came to PND, my concerns for my baby and lactation support. I’ve suffered pain from an episiotomy that I did not consent to leading me into severe post blues and stripped from a beautiful bonding experience with my baby.

And as traumatic as this was for me and the anxiety my first birth caused I was comforted and supported from the very first phone call to the last hug from my midwife. To the bedside manner during labour and the strongly encouraged skin to skin after birth. The helping hand to feel myself again after birth and the comfort of knowing my daughter was in safe hands. The home visits, access to call at anytime for advice and the follow ups for any concerns. My experience with AMG was truly amazing and I always had a listening ear! Thankyou Di, Tamara, Jacinta and the team at AMGP and KEMH I have a positive birthing story to share!
