"No beds for interhospital transfers"

About: Armadale Hospital Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as a relative),

Recently my in law was admitted to Armadale ED after waking unable to speak. Testing revealed a high grade GBM in their left hemisphere. The family were told they needed surgery within 7 days. At the time of writing this they are spending their 5th night in the ED as there are no surgical beds in the neurosurg ward at SCGH. 

They are apparently 3rd on the list for a bed. 

The staff have approached the hospital executive who have said my in-law can't have a bed on the ward at Armadale. They have improved somewhat on a swag of steroids but to my frustration how can there be no beds in the only hospital in Perth with the only neurosurgical team in town.

How do we not have surgical redundancy in the health system. Where are all our doctors and beds.

How can you be diagnosed with such a serious condition that has a specific treatment requirement and time frame but because there are no beds this is apparently unachievable.

It seems to me, that in WA you can't be treated with clinically required treatment in a clinically required timeframe because there are no beds.

The staff I have seen at Armadale are great and so very helpful and so emotional they can't get anything happening because of, I believe, systemic failure.

I was sorry to hear that your family member was admitted to Armadale Emergency Department (ED) with a high grade GBM and that there have been delays in transferring them to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH). I can only imagine how stressful and frustrating this situation must be for you and your family.
