"Credit where it's due."

About: Apex Radiology- Bunbury Bunbury Hospital / Medical Ward

(as a carer),

A couple of months ago my spouse was admitted to hospital for rotation of Schedule 8 pain medications.

There were many things that happened that I believe were hazardous to their health, and I have not forgiven or forgotten about them, and the hospital hasn't heard the last of me regarding these serious matters, either.

However, I believe in giving credit where it's due.

My spouse had to have some scans done yesterday. For the first time in 18 months they were able to go to their appointment sitting in the front passenger seat of our car, rather than be transported by patient transfer.

Nor did my spouse need copious quantities of extra pain relief before the process; they were also able to kill some time between scans by letting me take them out to lunch and do a bit of shopping for our dog before visiting their surviving parent since the last time they were able to sit in a car (at which time we had to evacuate our house due to a looming bushfire).

They were also able to endure a protracted scan after returning to the hospital later in the afternoon.

After being discharged from hospital for the cycling of medication, I still had to keep a watchful eye on them as the staff at that hospital had put them back on medication to which they were experiencing a rare, adverse reaction that I had informed them of upon admission.

I am also very displeased at what I believe was the cutting of corners which were apparently done in an attempt to save my beloved some pain but I understand would have delayed the diagnosis of a very serious health-related injury that could not be detected by any other means than imaging.

But we were out of the house for 6 hours, it was a lovely, sunny day, we got to eat at a cafe like normal people, enjoy each other's company like we have not done in over two years, and it broke the monotony of looking at the same walls through dysfunctional eyes.

I still have my gripes, but they have allowed my darling to do things that their other hospital admissions did not achieve and for that I am grateful and thankful, and so is the love of my life.

Dear Angry Advocate,

Thank you very much for your feedback. I am glad the hospital was able to tailor their support for your loved one to ensure minimal disruption to his wellbeing.

I'm also pleased that this approach facilitated a nice day for you both. It is so important to have opportunities that bring moments of colour and light to what can be a difficult treatment process for the family.

Wishing you and your husband more opportunities for these sorts of experiences going forward.

Yours sincerely,

John Brearley

Co-Director Bunbury Hospital
