"Emergency Department and Surgery"

About: Rockingham General Hospital / Emergency Department Rockingham General Hospital / Radiology Services

(as a parent/guardian),

We found ourselves in ED at RGH after having been referred by the after hours clinic in Rockingham, my daughter had abdo pain and went for appendectomy the next day in pm.

We arrived at 7:30 pm and got a chair inside 4hrs later then a bed another 2hrs later and were waiting for an abdominal ultrasound to decide whether surgery or not, By 4:30 am I went home to shower and come back 1hr later. My daughter had then just got pain relief and I felt comfortable going quick.

The Ed department was a doctor short, it was absolutely full , people everywhere and people still coming in to be seen.

Despite the medical shortage and the extremely slow patient flow, on top a resus was called and even less nurses available, the ED team was exceptional , calm and just kept working. The medical doctor, that eventually came to see my daughter was professional, calm and took time to diagnose and make a plan.

I want to thank both the ED nurses and the doctor.

I also want to extend our sincere thank you to the surgical team. Their professionalism, kindness, calmness was outstanding, they took time, explained the surgery, then the nurses prepped my daughter appropriately and with kindness and off she went.

The care afterwards on the surgical ward was also nothing short of amazing. The bedside nurse was a new graduate nurse and took time and care, the medical team was great, the follow up and plan given was taken with care and time.

A sincere thank you to the Rockingham Hospital ED, medical and nurses, as well surgical team, operating and ward care for their wonderful care.

We are forever grateful.

Hello airne79,

Thank you for your lovely compliment and for recognising the challenges our clinical staff navigate at times. At Rockingham General Hospital (RGH), delivering patient-centred care remains our highest priority, and acknowledgements like yours truly mean a lot.

It is both reassuring and pleasing to read that from your daughter’s presentation to the Emergency Department (ED) and subsequent admission for surgery, you received such professional care from all levels of staff who kept you informed, with great attention to detail and a smile on their face throughout your journey.

I am very privileged to oversee this hospital and the dedicated staff who understand the importance of ensuring all patients always receive the highest of care. It will be with pleasure that I share your heartfelt gratitude with all those members of staff who looked after you within the ED and the Surgical departments.

I hope your daughter has continued to make a full recovery and is doing well.

I sincerely thank you once again for taking the time to share your feedback with us and wish you all the very best for the future.

Thank you

Asheila Narang
