"No appointments available"

About: Swan Hill District Health Medical Centre

(as the patient),

I have recently undergone major abdominal surgery and am now back in the care of my GP. After seeing the GP and formulating a plan of care so as not clog the clinic unnecessarily a follow-up face-to-face appointment in 4 weeks and a telephone consultation if required on a Saturday. However when I attempted to make the appointment I was told nothing available until October, and telephone consultations can only occur if the doctor requests it. Is the doctor treating me as an idiot or do they not know what happens at reception. Can you please tell me how I can access medical care without having to travel out of town.

Hi Ginge,

Thank you for providing us with your feedback I'm really sorry that you have had some barriers to accessing appointments following your surgery its certainly not the access to care we aim to provide our patients with.

I can see the mixed messaging you have received would be frustrating and can be confusing. Our reception team members rely on the Doctor notifying them if a patient may need additional access to appointments outside of what may be available. I really want to sort this issue for you and assist you in getting the timely access to care that you need. Can I ask that you contact me directly on this email Shellsten@shdh.org.au

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
