"ED presentation with Grandchild"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

We brought our Grandchild into ED after getting them back from their parent.  We (my spouse) felt that the staff thought we had been neglecting our grandchild. After a while I did tell the staff that I work as an AHW.

We felt that they couldn't understand that the child is between the two families houses in Geraldton. Our grandchild had terrible impetigo on R ear which they needed medication for.

Dear conditionerjk47

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us on Care Opinion.

I was sorry to read that you and your spouse felt judged when you presented to the ED with your grandchild and would like to offer my sincere apologies that you experienced our service in that way. Our aim across all of Geraldton Health Campus is to provide thorough non-judgmental care for all members of our community.

I acknowledge that questioning parents/carers about a child is a complex and emotional situation to navigate. When a parent/carer feels we have not struck the right balance between finding necessary information and remaining respectful and compassionate I will always offer our apologies and assure them their feedback will be reviewed by the teams involved to ensure we are continuously improving the care we provide our community.

I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you personally to discuss your concerns in more detail. My name is Cameron Ross, I am the Operations Manager for Geraldton Health Campus. I can be reached on 9956 2369 and your call would be very welcomed.

I hope your grandchild has obtained the medication they required and the impetigo is clearing up.

Regards

Cameron Ross
