No dentist in Fitzroy Crossing

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Multiple times throughout the year myself and family are finding it difficult to travel to Broome/ Derby for dentist related services. When we need to, we are then out of pocket travel, accommodation and food. 

I also don't have a car, so I either have to rely on my family or again, pay out of my money, to travel with the greyhound bus to the destination.

I feel as though the community will benefit from a dental service in town. To reduce the presentations to Broome/ Derby dental services plus, we than won't be out of pocket. I believe this then will allow myself and others to be treated within a reasonable time frame rather than prolonging the service knowing I'm unable to travel those 3-4.5 hours to the next available dental service.

Dear FX Community Member,

I am sorry to hear the difficulties that you have had in accessing dental care in Fitzroy Crossing and understand the significance of needing to travel to Broome to access care. Especially when until recently, Fitzroy Crossing enjoyed the benefit of having the same public dentist and dental assistant consistently for 12 years.

In recent years the Dental Health Services (DHS) in WA has been experiencing a very challenging environment in recruiting dentists which has affected some regional areas significantly. DHS is actively recruiting and constantly looking into alternative methods to staff our clinics and services including the deployment of Perth based clinicians.

Currently, urgent dental care is available in Broome however as soon as a service can be re-established in Fitzroy Crossing we will communicate this with the community.
